Thrombectomy
A thrombectomy is a medical procedure used to remove a blood clot (thrombus) from a blood vessel to restore normal blood flow. It is commonly performed in emergency situations, such as during an ischemic stroke, deep vein thrombosis (DVT), or pulmonary embolism. Thrombectomies can be done surgically or through minimally invasive catheter-based techniques, where a device is guided through the blood vessels to capture and extract the clot. Prompt removal of the clot can prevent serious complications like tissue damage, organ failure, or death.
