Heart Transplant

A heart transplant is a surgical procedure in which a diseased or failing heart is replaced with a healthy donor heart, usually from a person who has recently died and whose heart is still viable. It is typically performed on patients with end-stage heart failure or severe heart conditions that do not respond to other treatments. During the procedure, the damaged heart is removed, and the donor heart is connected to the major blood vessels. After surgery, patients must take immunosuppressive medications to prevent rejection of the new heart and undergo regular monitoring. Heart transplants can significantly improve both the quality and length of life for eligible patients.
