Pleurodesis treats recurrent pleural effusions and pneumothorax regardless of cause.
The procedure is pain-free or causes minimal pain.
Pain is common and expected due to inflammation caused by the irritation.
Patients can resume all activities immediately.
Recovery includes wound care, avoiding heavy lifting, and gradual return to activities.
NSAIDs (aspirin, ibuprofen) should be strictly avoided because they prevent pleurodesis from working.
Recent evidence suggests NSAIDs may not reduce pleurodesis success but are not superior to opiates for pain control.
