A couple of conditions that may cause the need for pleurodesis are

• Recurrent pneumothorax - person experiences multiple episodes of a collapsed lung. 

• Pleural Effusion - A condition in which excess fluid gets collected in the pleural space. 

• These conditions could be caused by rheumatoid arthritis, lung tumor, hemothorax, heart failure, pneumonia etc.
