Causes
What may have caused the need for surgery?
-
One of the main reasons is a severe form of coronary artery disease. This occurs when the arteries supplying blood to the heart are blocked. In most cases it is due to a fat build up.
-
If the fat molecules break apart, blood clots could form that may lead to a heart attack. A surgery is usually done when other alternatives are not working or if you are at risk of a heart attack.
-
A couple of food items that cause it are saturated fat, trans fat, excess sodium, and sugar. The chances are higher if there is family history, smoking, alcohol use, lack of sleep or stress. People who are 65+ are at a higher risk for needing the surgery.
-
Your doctor may recommend this surgery if non-surgical alternatives are not working or if you are at a severe risk.
