Lung Transplant
A lung transplant is a surgical procedure in which one or both diseased lungs are replaced with healthy lungs from a deceased donor. It is typically considered for patients with end-stage lung diseases such as pulmonary fibrosis, cystic fibrosis, or chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) that do not respond to other treatments. Depending on the patient’s condition, a single, double, or heart-lung transplant may be performed. After the surgery, patients must take immunosuppressive medications to prevent organ rejection and undergo regular monitoring. A lung transplant can significantly improve breathing, energy levels, and overall quality of life.
