What are the risks of a LVAD?

Some surgical risks such as bleeding, infection and anaesthesia complications may occur.

Device Related complications such as Pump Thrombosis (This occurs when blood clots form within the pump, potentially causing device malfunction), stroke and right heart failure are possibilities.

Patients with LVADs often experience unplanned hospital readmissions within a short period after discharge.
