Recovery
How does the recovery of a pleurodesis look like?
-
The chest tube generally stays for 24 to 48 hours or longer—often 3 to 5 days depending on the procedure type and patient response—to allow complete lung adhesion and drainage.
-
Some patients may experience short-term fever or chest tightness due to inflammation, which is typically manageable and resolves quickly.
-
Follow-up appointments, including chest X-rays 4 to 6 weeks after the procedure, assess the success of pleurodesis and detect complications.
-
Patients are advised to rest as needed, avoid heavy lifting and strenuous activities, and gradually return to normal routines when cleared by their doctor.
-
Some patients may experience ongoing shortness of breath or pain post-procedure, which usually improves with time and supportive care.
