Lifestyle Changes

How does life change after surgery?

  • After your surgery, following a specific diet is essential for your recovery. This typically involves reducing your salt and sugar intake while focusing on consuming more lean proteins, whole grains, and essential minerals to support healing and overall health.

  • For the first three months, heavy lifting and intense physical activity should be avoided to prevent strain on your body. Even after that, it is important to approach exercise and exertion with caution to avoid overtaxing your heart.

  • Regular exercise will become part of your routine, and many patients benefit from cardiac rehabilitation programs designed to help restore strength and stamina safely.

  • You may also need to monitor your pulse daily to ensure your heart remains in good condition.

  • Mood swings, depression, and fatigue are common following a surgery, and it is important to address these feelings with your healthcare team.

  • Other potential side effects include constipation, trouble sleeping, sore throats, bumps, and swelling, all of which may be related to medications or the recovery process. It is essential to communicate with your doctors about any discomfort or  concerns so they can help manage
    these symptoms effectively.
