Lifestyle Changes
What are some lifestyle changes after a lobectomy?
-
For a while after the surgery, you will not be able to drive or lift anything heavy. You will also feel tired and in pain for a few weeks.
-
You will need to learn how to care for your surgical wound. You will need to avoid any type of smoke coming from cigarettes, fires, chemical fumes, environmental pollution etc.
-
You will need follow up visits and x-rays periodically to ensure that the disease is not returning. Usually every 6 months for every five years.
-
In most cases, you will need to quit smoking, exercising more and start eating a healthy balanced diet.
-
You may need to perform breathing exercises to enhance lung function and prevent any complications with pneumonia.
-
Patients have been known to experience anxiety or depression and may need to participate in support health groups.
-
Some patients need pain medication and therapies, bronchodilators, steroid inhalers and antibiotics.
