Lifestyle Changes
What are some lifestyle changes after a pleurodesis?
-
Rest when tired and allow your body to heal. Avoid moving quickly or lifting heavy objects until you feel better.
-
Gradually resume normal activities as you feel able but avoid straining, holding your breath, or bearing down during activities like bowel movements.
-
Avoid lifting objects heavier than 10 pounds until your doctor provides approval.
-
Keep a dressing over the incision to protect it and promote healing. Leave tape strips on the incision for about a week or until they fall off naturally.
-
You may experience pain and soreness, especially near the chest tube site. Your doctor may prescribe pain medications, including over-the-counter or prescription options.
-
You can eat your normal diet; however, if your stomach feels upset, try bland and low-fat foods such as plain rice, broiled chicken, toast, and yogurt.
